Book City has tailored its product mix to ensure that maximum sales volume and profitability are achieved by its retail outlets. The Book City product range comprises an appropriate mix of high margin promotional books together with new releases and "back-list" (general) stock reflecting the traditional book market.

Book City Franchisees purchase most of their stock direct from suppliers who deliver free into store. The terms Book City have negotiated with most suppliers are either 30 or 60 day trading terms. New releases and group purchases are often bought at higher discount than normal stock.

A majority of New Release stock is Fully Sale or Return. Specials organised by Book City Head Office are usually firm sale and always at high margins.
